The blog posts linked to below provide tips on how you can respond to Defra’s consultation on the future of British Waterways titled ‘A New Era for the Waterways’.
We see this consultation as a unique opportunity to encourage Defra and BW to think about the options available to it in terms of community development and social enterprise.
If you believe that the government and BW is missing a trick, then please follow these guidelines and demonstrate your own enthusiasm for an NWC that gives community groups and social enterprises a genuine chance to play a role in the management of their local waterways.
Each question is followed by a summary of the consultation document, some comments from us and is followed by our own response to the consultation.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be posting our responses to the 29 consultation questions on this website themed as follows:
- Charity mission and vision (Qs 1 –7)
- Governance structures (Qs 8 – 12)
- Engagement / Involvement (Qs 13 – 17)
- Representation and scrutiny (Qs 18 – 22)
- The Community Interest Company (Q 23)
